A question on stopping FAFSA for time off?
It sounds like you'll be gone the entire 2011-12 academic year. In that case, there is nothing to do with regards to your FAFSA because new FAFSAs are required every year and are always available January 1st of every year. There is nothing you can do about your Pell Grant. If you do not attend school this year, you cannot put it on hold unless you plan to return within the school year you were awarded, which just means you'll get it when you return. Every year you apply for the Pell Grant again by completing the FAFSA all over again. Make sure you withdraw from you school the right way--using any withdrawal process set in place. Just not showing up after being admitted does not guarantee the school will withdraw you and this may mean you end up owing tuition and fees for not attending. Also notify your financial aid office so they may cancel any aid they set up for you so it does not disburse to you in error.
