What are my legal obligations here?

I received a letter, from my previous employers (which I quit about 3 months ago), stating that they had accidentally made payments into my bank account, which was an obvious mistake. They require that I return that money to them in their bank account. Do I have to, or is it their mistake, which they will just need to accept?
