Do you ex-miitary veterans out there pretty much agree with this?
Ok, so as of late I have been reading where some veterans have faced downright discrimination with respect to being hired by civilian companies. In one veteran's case, a female navy veteran who had just graduated from Rutgers university was denied employment due to her veterans status. So, I have come to the conclusion that it is BEST to totally leave military service off of one's resume UNLESS you are applying for a job with the U.S. government. It is for this reason that I believe that a military draft SHOULD be the law of the land in this country where two years of MANDATORY military service is required. As it stands right now, military veterans make up less than 1% of the total U.S. population and are discriminated against on a regular basis with respect to being hired by civilian corporations. MOST hiring managers have this idea in their heads that EVERYBODY who serves in the U.S. Army and Marine Corps is an infantryman and kills people whereas veterans KNOW that this is simply NOT true. If military service were mandatory for EVERBODY then civilian hiring managers would have no choice but to hire veterans. That's why we need a draft in this country. Conscientious objectors could be allowed to serve in non-combat/non-infantry jobs to fulfill their obligations. To sum this up, do any of you all know how I can get around the "gap" on my resume by leaving my Marine Corps time off so that I can stand a fighting chance of finding a civilian job when I FINALLY graduate an "old man" at the age of 32?
